1. International Lewa Marathon 26th june- 28th June 2009

Break away from the urban herd and join us in the International Bush marathon in Lewa and you do it with a cause! Bush camping, meet friends, have fun enjoying bushlife - while counting stars and be happy!

The Safaricom Lewa Marathon kicked off in 2000 with the aim of raising funds for conservation and community projects around Samburu, Isiolo, Laikipia and Meru areas.

The marathon attracts competitors from all over the world. Big groups of runners enter from the United States and United Kingdom. Runners from Australia, India, Europe and Canada also participate.

Over 750 runners take part in the full and half marathon with an additional 100 children competing in the 5km fun run.

The Venue

The marathon is run on dirt roads, over two 21km loop for the half-marathon- through the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy.

Over time, the Safaricom Marathon on the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy has gained reputation as one for being one of the ten toughest marathon events in the world. Run on a rough terrain and under harsh climatic conditions, it is an enticing experience which has continued to inspire distance runners and athletic fans alike.

The grueling marathon is also unique in that it is run within a wildlife conservancy located at an average altitude of 5,500 feet above sea level.

2. Study Tour/volunteer placement  June 15- July17 09

With leadership from Goran  Goransson, veteran traveller, teacher and photographer and Johanna Gustavasson of TWIGA foundation) a group 10 students from Osterlens middle level college in Tomelila, Sweden will visit Kajiao, Uaso Baboon project in laikipia, mpala research centre, Loitokitok, Amboseli- as an introductory to their Trainee program/interneship and volunteer work in Kenya and Uganda. 6 students will live among the maasai in Enkokidongoi village- Maili Tisa, Namanga and will assist the Oloililai Girls education fund, enviromental conservation and primary school. 4 will will leave for volunteer placement in Kisoro Uganda.

Gorilla conservationists and Trekkers fromm Rwanda and Uganda: Gregory Bakunzi, Sandar Gray and Sheba- Hikes to the top of Ol donyo orok (Enarusa), where an undisturbed Baboon Troops lives.

..........learning through adventure, volunteer work and cultural excursions.

3. July 5- july 13 - Protecting Maasai Heritage: World Intelectual Property Organisation- Geneva, American folklife centre and Centre for documentation studies will conduct a Training for officials of Maasai Cultural Heritage in Laikipia to document and digitize their cultural heritage and forms of expressions. NICE will handle ground logistics. Venue will the Ilngwesi comunity eco lodge.

4. August: US group/in partnership with Maasai association

7. October; Flying safari: nairobi- samburu- nairobi- amboseli( with Maasai association)
