Discover Maji Moto and Maasai mara
We have visited many countries and tourist attractions before. Our trip and our experiences in Kenya is after a few weeks of reflections the best of them all. What we appreciate and what we want to experience more from a holiday, and of course do we want to experience new things that we have not had before. But even more important is to meet people as natural as possible and become close to them. We did that in Kenya. After a short flight from Nairobi with beautiful views and fantastic sceneries did we land 6 kilometres from Maji Moto. Ngila, a competent and humble guide and Kenyatta, a skilled driver and Sindi met us and brought us to Maji Moto. Three Maasai men and three northern residences in the same car, it could not be any better.
In Maji Moto do people live in symbiosis with nature. Without any electricity but with some comforts for us, did the existence for us become more than well. No problem. Hakuna Matata. We were served three dishes dinner in the bush with the sky and the stars as a roof. Soup, the main dish and deep fried bananas for dessert, everything cooked by a good chef by the open fire. We spent time with them during two days and got to know each other through storytelling. We believe that without theirs and other ethnic groups way of living and taking care of the resources of the nature, would not Masai Mara and other nature reserves exist. Of course we took an evening bath in the source of heat. The water was hot, but it was a nice experience. There are plenty more to write and tell about, but it has to be experienced. Our memories and experiences with the people in the Maasai village will last for a long time. Thank you.
With the new experiences we travelled towards safari and Maasai Mara. Around and in the nature reverse were there plenty of birds, our guide showed his skills and interests for birds and plants. He brought a book, that we studied together. After a while we learned the names of the different bird spices. We saw lots of elephants and Kenyatta did fast find fresh traces of lions. Surely have we seen lions at zoos but out in the free were they much bigger. With lions at two meters distance do you feel a certain respect. We had a safari without any stress and we saw giraffes, buffalos, chitas and plenty of other animals. The highlight of the safari was our meeting the leopard. We had heard and read that it can be fairly hard to find and see leopard during a few days of safari in Masai Mara. But we did see this animals. The feeling to out in the free both to see and been watch by a living leopard is hard to describe. It has to be experienced.
If you go to Kenya you can not miss out Nairobi. Helen guided us in Nairboi. We visited the Sheldricks orphanage that care for abandoned elephant children, give them food, love and care and slowly do they adjust to a life out in the free. We also visited a park that cared for another kind of giraffes. Anybody who wanted to feed and hug these peaceful giraffes were allowed to do so.
The life of Karen Blixen´s life has both became books and movie. We visited the home of Karen Blixen, which nowadays is a museum. The guide of the museum is a real enthusiast who cares for everything that involves Karen Blixen. She really loves her job. Thank you for generosity.
Through our friend Susanne Simonsson home in Sweden did we get in contact with Ole Kaunga Johnson and Nice Safari. Please contact them. We did. It both became the travel and experience of our life.
Thank you to Ole Kaunga, Ngila, Kenyatta, Helen and to everybody else.
We will see each other again
